Anonymous 1041
Anonymous 1041 discusses the broad impacts of colonisation on First Peoples, noting the loss of culture and language in the Kulin nations. They highlight the lack of First Nations history in their own education but praise their daughter's kindergarten for integrating Boon Wurrung culture. They advocate for listening, understanding, and promoting First Peoples' history through schools and public celebrations.

I know about colonisation at the whole of Australia level and the impact on First Peoples, including racist government policy and the awful realities of the way colonisation has impacted First Peoples – I am not as familiar with teh Victoria specific impacts – I do know that the Kulin nations were heavily impacted and that much culture and language has been lost along with the lives of many people
As a child I learnt basically nothing – we were told about the ‘discovery’ of Australia by Captain Cook and there was limited mention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. There was no discussion of culture – no sharing of information it was invisible. My daughter is now in kindergarten at age 3 and she is taught a lot in partnership with the Boon Wurrung community here where we live
First I want to see more of what is happening in my daughter’s kinder in Balnarring. The Balnarring ELC partnered with BoonWurrung elders to inform the curriculum. My 3 year old daughter has more of an understanding of First Peoples culture than many of my friends in their 40s. for her she is learning about the creation stories as part of her foundational learning. I love that ceremony and culture are included in her every day learning and that she is even learning language.
By listening and understanding what is actually happening rather than just turning away. By increasing their understanding and awareness of the impact and history. Then by taking actions to change.
