What do you know about the colonisation of Victoria and its impacts on First Peoples?

It has significant and horrifying consequences for first peoples that affect communities to this day

What has been your experience learning about First Nations history and culture in Victoria's education system? Do you feel it was comprehensive?

I attended only year 10 and 11 in Australia and we did not cover first peoples history at all. I was not exposed to really any information until university.

What changes would you like to see in Victoria to promote better understanding and respect for First Peoples cultures?

For First Better education on history and continuing impacts of colonisation as well as first peoples history prior to 1770 in primary and secondary schools conversations on racism and current affects in workplaces Celebration of language Celebration of cultural practices, days of significance etc Education on what true self determination means and exercise of it

In what ways do you think non-First Nations Victorians can contribute to the process of truth-telling and treaty?

Allow for voices to be heard Actually listening and embedding what has been advised on by community Acknowledging historic and ongoing harm Acknowledging and changing performative practices Educating ourselves
