Submission Transcription
Not enough. Aware of ongoing impact to first peoples, including poorer health outcome/education levels/facing ongoing racism/over representation in justice system.
I went through a few years of public school, then remainder in private system in the 90s. I don’t think I had any education around First Nations history, absolutely not comprehensive. The little I was taught was from white historians, not First Nations people My children are currently in the private education system in Victoria, so I don’t have knowledge of public system. The private school they go to seems to have excellent early education around First Nations people’s culture, including language, books from First Nations authors and regular education sessions with a local community elder. I would like this to be standard across education in Victoria. Being taught the history from First Nations people, not the white colonial side of history.
Improved education as above Meaningful changes at state government level to ensure that First Nations voices are heard. Truth telling and acknowledgment by Victorian government about colonial history and what happened Treaty
Listen to the stories Have an acknowledgment at government level of truth telling.
