Anonymous 1167
Anonymous 1167 gained some understanding of the colonisation of Victoria through a cultural competency program at work but found it insufficient. They recall no education about First Nations history and culture in school during the 1970s and 80s. They believe education aimed at all demographics is key to truth-telling and treaty, and suggest funding opportunities for First Nations people to teach and share their stories.

I understand a bit after completing a cultural competency program through my work. It was a crash course and probably didn’t adequately cover enough. But it raised my awareness and ability to seek out further information.
No, far from comprehensive. I was at school in the 1970’s & 80’s, I don’t recall at any time covering history and culture of First Nations peoples. Appalling.
Education is key. It needs to be aimed at all demographics, community wide.
