What do you know about the colonisation of Victoria and its impacts on First Peoples?

Loss of First Nations skills and knowledge -no acknowledgment or respect of the vast knowledge systems or family centered practice. Lots of poorly considered political policies – lead to racist values and genocide Minority of well-intentioned actions by individuals but not mainstream Education systems were so far behind progressing Lack of truth telling

What has been your experience learning about First Nations history and culture in Victoria's education system? Do you feel it was comprehensive?

Nil in my educational past Working with an organisation who values First Nations culture and actively progresses actions through a RAP, has led to parenting my children and sharing the truth of our past and investigating the vast knowledge systems held by First Nations, especially the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples of the Kulin Nation.

What changes would you like to see in Victoria to promote better understanding and respect for First Peoples cultures?

Embedding historical truth, progressing respect within our educational settings – I see children as the future but also the changemakers in their own families. Unsettling previous racist narratives.

In what ways do you think non-First Nations Victorians can contribute to the process of truth-telling and treaty?
