I have done a lot of personal work on learning and listening around the impacts of colonisation and its impacts on First Peoples. I have an ongoing commitment to learning as I work on my allyship. I understand colonisation to be the reason for disparity between settlers and First Peoples and I see and hear of that disparity play out daily for First People. I wish this information was more publicly known and we openly talked about this respectfully. I believe this is something that I need to continually engage with and recognise how it impacts on First People. I wish I had of learnt about this in school and not had to wait till university to be exposed to this information.
My education was in NSW. I wish I had of learnt about this in school and not had to wait till university to be exposed to this information. The education system needs to provide comprehensive learning about First Nations history and culture, it benefits all of us and moves us towards actual truth telling.
Open and safe discussion about this. Education about First Peoples. LISTENING to the voices and changes determined by First People. Celebration of First Peoples cultures. Funding for ACCO’s and community to self-determine. Responsibility from white Australia to actually allow truth telling and to sit in the discomfort that comes from that.
Work towards our allship. Platform First Peoples voices and perspectives. LISTEN. Sit in the discomfort and critically examine who benefits and who doesn’t from how things are (colonisation).
