Djirra (Land, Sky and Waters)
Djirra is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering holistic, culturally safe, specialist family violence support, legal services and case management, alongside cultural and wellbeing workshops and programs. This submission provides detail about the wider impacts of the land theft and dispossession that has occurred since colonisation. It focuses on "how the impacts have disproportionately harmed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children and how the dispossession manifests for our people and communities today. In particular, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s experiences of poverty, displacement from country, family violence, homelessness, lower life expectancy, poor physical and mental health, inequality and oppression."
