I shudder when I think of it. I know about the Henty brothers who settled in Portland and who I believe were involved in masacres.I know about John Batman who supposedly did a deal with the Wurrungerie peoples for land or some were told at school. I know there was widespread poisoning and massacres.
Practically non existent. Indigenous were presented as primitive sub humans, living naked, in mia mias. Absurd, disgusting. One teacher would tell us stories of “Little Black Arthur telling us of his bravery and ingenuity. But it was all deemed unimportant.
Honesty and respect to begin with. We should be aiming to instill great pride in our First Australians. I have come to love and respect the rich indigenous culture, their law and relationships with other mobs.Taking kids on field trips to country where sites can be visited and the way they lived explained. It is fascinating and much can be learned. Admiration and respect will grow.
